Kasavu sarees

Worn by Malayalee women during the festivals of Onam and Vishu, Kasavu is a traditional saree, which traces its origin to God’s own country Kerala. Kasavu sarees are hand-woven from pure cotton fabric and bordered with golden zari. The specialty of the saree is the unique and beautiful combination of cream and golden colors. While there are versions of the Kasavu with coloured borders edged in gold, the stand-alone ones are the off white and gold sarees with gold thread running in th weave and a heavy pallu. These are so gorgeous that they can be worn for the fanciest occasions with elan.

Kasavu originated in the Buddhist era and was then known as ‘Mundum Neryathum’. Over the course of time, this traditional fabric took the shape of a six-yard beauty, the Kasavu saree and captured the southern parts of India, majorly Kerala. Today, saree designers are experimenting with this ethnic heritage to create a perfect blend of modern and traditional designs. The weavers of the Kasavu saree are creating options with block print patterns and ganga-jamuna borders to add flair to the sarees.

Kerala’s Kasavu creates anelegant feminine silhouette defining the beauty of every woman through its simplicity. Hand-woven by the master craftsmen of Kerala, this saree is offered in a range of glossy borders soaked in the color of gold. Worn on festive occasions, adorned with jasmine flowers in the hair and a vibranttilak on the forehead, the effect is nothing short of ethereal.
